Baez and Djere qualify for the final of the Santiago tournament

The South American clay court tour is nearing its end. After the events held in Buenos Aires and Rio, the Santiago tournament will reach its conclusion this Sunday following the final between Sebastian Baez and Laslo Djere in Chile.
The Argentine, in great form in recent weeks, has just won the ATP 500 tournament in Rio de Janeiro (by defeating Alexandre Muller in the final) and is on a roll.
After victories against Francisco Comesaña and Damir Dzumhur, Baez eliminated, as in the first round in Argentina and the semifinals in Brazil over the past two weeks, Camilo Ugo Carabelli (6-1, 3-6, 6-2) to reach the final.
At 24 years old, he will play his 10th final on the circuit and will attempt to win the 8th trophy of his career. This also marks the 100th victory since the start of Baez's career, who is just one win away from a second consecutive Rio-Santiago double.
After winning both tournaments last year, he could repeat the feat and secure a 7th title on clay. In the final, the world number 31 will face Laslo Djere.
The Serbian, always dangerous on clay, has eliminated Francisco Cerundolo, finalist in Buenos Aires (6-1, 4-6, 6-3), in his 300th ATP match. Ranked 103rd in the world this week, Djere, 29, will return to the top 90 after the tournament.
He will aim for a 3rd career title and his first since the Sardinia Open in 2020. The two men have faced each other twice, and Baez has so far always emerged victorious from their encounters.
