Beaten by Sinner, Gasquet is positive: "There were some good things about this French Open"
Richard Gasquet lived up to his invitation. After an excellent first-round performance against Borna Coric (7-6, 7-6, 6-4), he was no pushover against Jannik Sinner on Wednesday. Logically beaten (6-4, 6-2, 6-4), the Frenchman sold his skin dearly, regaling the audience with some wonderful shots.
Speaking to the press, the man from Béziers was satisfied with his tournament: "There were some great emotions. It's nice to play in the evening like that against the world number 2. The balls were pretty heavy, so it wasn't easy for me to get the ball forward and lift. I didn't serve very well. He was stronger throughout the match. Yes, it makes you want to keep going, and I hope to play a bit more at this level. There were some good things at the French Open. After that, you always want to take a set, to do a bit better from time to time."
Asked about his chances of returning to Roland Garros next year, the former world No.7 refused to comment: "I don't know. I take it month by month. It's always a blur. We'll see if I stop at the end of the year, next season. It's good to win here (in the first round, against Coric), but anything's possible. When you lose two or three matches, you tell yourself that a week later, it's all over. If I lose three times in a row on grass... There are ups and downs. Right now, I don't feel bad. Not that bad."
