Becker Reprimands Piqué After His Proposals to Reform Tennis
Since the end of his professional football career at FC Barcelona, Gerard Piqué has developed certain projects.
The former Spanish central defender, heavily involved in tennis as he was behind the reform of the Davis Cup in recent years, has proposed several changes to make tennis more attractive.
Recently, in a podcast with his former Spanish national team teammate Iker Casillas, Piqué explained that he wanted to see changes regarding the serve.
"Tennis will lose fans if no one finds solutions. Why have two serves allowed? If you miss the first serve, it's a point for the opponent. Otherwise, it's 30 more seconds of a guy bouncing the ball on the ground.
People don't want to see that. They also don't want to see a long game of five minutes with 40-40 - advantage, 40-40 - advantage. We should implement a decisive point at 40-40."
These comments have sparked reactions, notably from tennis legend Boris Becker.
The German, a former world number one and winner of six Grand Slams in his career, wanted to send a message to Gerard Piqué on his X account (formerly Twitter).
"With all due respect, a very good footballer should not discuss the future of tennis," Becker wrote on the social network.
