Being that inefficient on the return is not normal": Mpetshi Perricard draws conclusions from his elimination at Roland-Garros
For his second participation in Roland-Garros, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard was eliminated in the second round by Damir Dzumhur.
The French player, who had recently won a Challenger title in Bordeaux and had a successful first-round entry against Bergs on Sunday, expressed his disappointment with the level of play he displayed against the world No. 69:
"I was missing quite a few things. The return, the backhand, the forehand, the movement. That's a lot. The only shot that worked today was my serve. I felt like I wasn't getting the performance I wanted in the intensity I wanted to put in my shots and the quality that was in them. It was not enough against a player like him.
There is a lot of frustration. I had an encouraging first round, and to fall like this is quite brutal. Losing here is painful. I would have liked to maintain the continuity of what I did against Bergs.
Having such a low level, especially on the return, being so inefficient in that area is not normal. But then again, he played his match; he played very well and moved me around.
