Bencic against electronic line judging on clay: I feel like humans are turning off their brains by making everything electronic

Belinda Bencic will be in the round of 16 in Madrid where she will face Coco Gauff. While awaiting this clash which will be played tomorrow on the Arantxa Sanchez court, the Swiss player took the time to discuss the replacement of line judges for clay court tournaments.

A decision made by the governing bodies of tennis which does not please the current world No. 42, as reported by the Relevo website:

Publicité

"I’m not a fan. On hard courts, I can understand, because it prevents conflicts. And you can also request a challenge with hawk-eye. But on clay? I think it’s difficult because we rely on electronics rather than on human brains, human instincts, and the human eye.

You see the ball, it's out, but the electronic judging says it’s in by a millimeter. The chair umpire is not allowed to look at the mark to confirm that the ball is indeed out. I don’t know what to think about that, but if it happens to you, you go crazy.

I feel like humans are turning off their brains and senses by making everything electronic. With artificial intelligence too, ChatGPT... And we completely stop thinking."

Its still more accurate than human judges. And it stops all the complaining and arguing. Well, it's supposed to. But some of these players always have to find something to complain about

I'm glad there's a sofa coach like you that understands the situation and can explain it to professional players and us alike😀

Perhaps allow 1 to 3 challenges a match per player, where the umpire can leave his or her chair to use his or her brain?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.

What a finish this is.. I believe King has used his boost for today. Skelp is closing strong. Two wins and he claims 1st if I lose my last prediction.

Gonna be difficult with only 2 pointers to choose from.

I propose the following changes to the rules:

1...a walķover will not be a loss. We have no control of player's health. If he or she is entered in a contest we expect them to play.

2...an incomplete match is not a loss. If a player forfeits we pick another match if there are more to choose.

3...this also applies if TT cancels a match. TT will not take hours to decide an outcome.

How about leavin...

It's a shame that so many matches are being canceled. TT ,you are destroying your game ,and thereby killing your app. I don't know how many matches others have had canceled , but I'm at 3 and it's only thursday.

As a long time player and lover of this game , I don't know how much of this I can tolerate. For example I waited hours last night for you to confirm my win and post my points. Every ot...
