Indian Wells and Miami were previously the only Masters 1000 events to take place over 12 days. In 2025, only Bercy and Monte-Carlo will be held over a single week.
This news is far from pleasing all tennis fans.
Benoît Maylin, a journalist, criticizes this system that offers byes to the top 32 players and results in first rounds that are sometimes of a lower level.
"With the 12-day Masters 1000, go find exciting first rounds. At Indian Wells, we’ll get excited about Munar-Nishikori, or even Monfils-Struff.
So, we make projections. I hate projections. I hate these drawn-out Masters 1000."
