Berdych on Djokovic: "Why stop when you feel you're still competitive?"
Tomas Berdych hasn't left the world of tennis. The Czech, former world number 4, was Jiri Lehecka's coach before the two men ended their collaboration.
The 2010 Wimbledon finalist is now captain of the Czech Davis Cup team.
In an interview with Tennis Majors, Berdych reflects on the end of the Big 3, following Federer's retirement in 2022 and Nadal's retirement in recent weeks.
In his opinion, Novak Djokovic, the last survivor of this golden era of tennis, is still playing for a very specific reason.
"Of course, it's sad to see all these guys end their careers, but it was bound to happen at some point, it's impossible to play forever.
But when you look at everything they've achieved, I totally understand why they tried to continue their careers, because you never know what can happen.
Maybe Roger would have won one more Grand Slam, and the same goes for Rafa.
If Novak wins a 25th Grand Slam, it would be historic, and that's why he's still playing. If he's still feeling good physically and manages to win another Major title, that's the best thing that could happen.
When you've given your all over the last 20 or 25 years and won everything, why stop when you feel you're still competitive?" he declared.
