Anna Blinkova won the Jiujiang tournament, defeating 17-year-old Lilli Tagger in straight sets in the final this Sunday.

The stage was set for the final of the WTA 250 tournament in Jiujiang, China this Sunday. Anna Blinkova faced Lilli Tagger, a young Austrian player who has been steadily improving in recent months.

The 17-year-old world number 230, who received a wild card from the organizers, made the most of her opportunity throughout the week and managed to eliminate the defending champion Viktorija Golubic in the semifinals, after saving three match points.

On her side, the Russian, world number 95, had a strong tournament, defeating Chloé Paquet (6-4, 6-4), Anna Bondar (7-6, 7-5), Alycia Parks (7-5, 7-5), and Dominika Salkova (6-4, 6-4). The 27-year-old player was the favorite, but caution was advised against the protégée of Francesca Schiavone, who was playing her first WTA Tour final and was already guaranteed to break into the top 200 after the tournament.

In control during the match, Blinkova concluded a perfect tournament without dropping a set, with a final victory (6-3, 6-3 in 1 hour 40 minutes). She wins the second title of her career, three years after her victory against Jasmine Paolini at the Cluj-Napoca tournament in the autumn of 2022 (6-2, 3-6, 6-2). She had subsequently lost her last WTA Tour final, against Elina Svitolina in Strasbourg in 2023 (6-2, 6-3).

Omnipresent cameras, line judges on the verge of extinction, mistakes that persist nonetheless: technology fascinates as much as it divides. Tennis, at a crossroads, is still searching for its balance between progress and emotion.

Conceived as a bold bet to prepare for the post–Big 3 era, the Next Gen Masters has shaken up the codes of modern tennis. A pioneering, visionary tournament, but now in search of an identity.

Since February 2022 and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Ukrainian sport has been heavily affected by human, structural and economic losses. Tennis has, of course, not been spared. While Ukrainian athletes have had to rethink their entire organization, an entire country, behind the scenes, has had to adapt and change its training conditions. This extends all the way to the highest level, where professional players have spoken out, trying as best they can to help their nation.

Born almost by accident in an Acapulco garden, padel has in fifty years become a global phenomenon that both fascinates and worries tennis. Its meteoric rise is already reshaping the landscape of racket sports.

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
