Blow for Pegula who was eliminated in the first round of Wimbledon against Cocciaretto

Jessica Pegula arrived at Wimbledon full of confidence, after her title in Bad Homburg won against Iga Swiatek.

This Tuesday, she was making her debut at Wimbledon against Elisabetta Cocciaretto, a seemingly manageable first round.

However, the American was defeated in just 59 minutes of play, with a score of 6-2, 6-3. A result far too inadequate for the world number three, who achieved 5 winners against 24 unforced errors.

As for Cocciaretto, she becomes the first Italian to eliminate a Top 3 seed at Wimbledon. She will face either Tatjana Maria or Katie Volynets in the next round.
