Bonzi and Muller Fall in the First Round in Acapulco

After the eliminations of Corentin Moutet and Hugo Gaston in Santiago, there were also two other French players on the courts of another tournament from Tuesday night to Wednesday.
At the Acapulco tournament, Benjamin Bonzi and Alexandre Muller were present and wanted to advance to the second round. Benjamin Bonzi drew Brandon Nakashima for his first match.
A tricky match against a player who had a good 2024 season. After a tight match, it was the American who held his nerve to win (7-6, 7-5). Nakashima, ranked 42nd in the world, will face Holger Rune in the next round.
The Dane, on his side, dominated Roberto Carballes Baena (7-6, 6-3) but will have to overcome his nemesis to hope for a spot in the quarter-finals.
Indeed, Rune has never beaten Nakashima in three previous encounters. The Paris-Bercy Masters 1000 winner fell in three sets in the first round of the last US Open.
In the best form of his career, Alexandre Muller, who won his first ATP title in Hong Kong in January and was recently a finalist at the ATP 500 in Rio, was in Mexico eager to continue his streak. However, the 28-year-old player stumbled against Frances Tiafoe, losing 6-4, 6-2.
In the next round, Tiafoe will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who saved four match points against Mattia Bellucci before winning 1-6, 7-6, 6-2.
The American leads their head-to-head with the Spaniard 2-0 and will aim for a third win.
After Rinderknech's elimination on Monday against Ruud, there are no longer any French players in the main draw of this Acapulco tournament.
