Brussels ATP 250: Musetti Headlines, Fonseca Makes Grand Return, and French Players Lie in Wait
The former Antwerp tournament settles into the Belgian capital with a promising draw. Musetti, Auger-Aliassime, Fonseca… and a French contingent ready to strike hard to mark the end of the season.
While the Shanghai Masters 1000 is about to witness a final between cousins Valentin Vacherot and Arthur Rinderknech, tennis is set to return to Europe for the final stretch of the season.
Three ATP 250 tournaments are on the schedule for the start of this indoor tour, notably the Brussels tournament. Previously held in Antwerp, the event has moved to the Belgian capital this year.
The number 1 seed is none other than world number 9 Lorenzo Musetti. He receives a bye and will face either a qualifier or his compatriot Matteo Arnaldi in the second round. Still hoping to secure his ticket to the ATP Finals, Félix Auger-Aliassime will start against Federico Cina or Damir Dzumhur.
Defending champion Roberto Bautista-Agut, 37, will challenge Sebastian Baez in his opening match.
Among the French players, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard is the number 5 seed and will play his first round against Emil Ruusuvuori. Benjamin Bonzi will meet Reilly Opelka again just days after their clash in Shanghai, and Quentin Halys will face a qualifier.
Finally, Joao Fonseca, absent from the tour since the US Open (the Laver Cup being an exhibition), will face Botic van de Zandschulp in his debut. The Brazilian hopeful had decided to skip the Shanghai Masters 1000 to best prepare for this indoor season finale.
