Bublik reaches the final in Hangzhou and joins an exclusive club
Alexander Bublik asserted himself with authority against Wu Yibing (6-3, 6-3) to qualify for the Hangzhou final.
The flamboyant Kazakh made his presence felt: in just over an hour of play, he extinguished the local Wu Yibing (6-3, 6-3), despite playing against a crowd that favored his opponent. But it’s not just the solidity of his performance that's noteworthy: it's what this victory signifies going forward.
With this qualification, Bublik reaches his 15th career final, his fourth in 2025. More importantly, he becomes the fourth player this season to reach a final on all three surfaces: hard, clay, and grass.
Only Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Alexander Zverev had achieved this feat so far. It’s a rare distinction that demonstrates newfound consistency and maturity in a player once known for his inconsistency.
In the final, Bublik will face Frenchman Arthur Royer, the tournament's surprise, for an unexpected but enticing match-up. Against the young Frenchman, he will be the favorite. But as always with him, a new twist could very well be in store.
