Bublik's surprising opinion on the ATP calendar
Alexander Bublik has made a surprising proposal concerning the ATP calendar, which is often criticized for being too long. The Kazakh would like to do away with the ATP 250s, as he believes they don't bring in enough money.
Tournaments in this category make up the majority of the ATP calendar, numbering 38, while there are 13 ATP 500s and 9 Masters 1000s.
Bublik explains: "I don't think we should play the ATP 250s when the winner takes home $50,000.
We don't even collect them, because our teams cost us more than that. We don't need to play the ATP 250 and the Challengers. So that's my message to my colleagues.
After five or seven years on the circuit, it doesn't make sense for us, we're not making much money. Unless you want to get extra points, which I did. I was only in it for the points.
In terms of money, we have to make a living and the ATP 250s aren't really interesting for players."
