Burel qualifies for the last 16 in Angers
Clara Burel, seeded n°1 at the WTA 125 tournament in Angers, made it through to the 1st round by beating Céline Naef (7-5, 6-3).
The Frenchwoman made her return to Angers after winning the tournament last year.
In her opening match against the 174th-ranked player in the world, Burel quickly fell behind 4-0 in the first set. But she gradually made up the deficit, becoming more solid on her serves, before breaking at 6-5 to close out the first set 7-5.
The No.1 seed kept up her momentum in the second set and, despite a small scare when she lost her serve at 5-2, she finally broke again to win the match.
Burel will face Mona Barthel (183rd in the world) on Thursday for a place in the quarter-finals.
