Can Swiatek Catch Up to Sabalenka? The WTA No. 1 Race Heats Up
With just two months left in the season, the battle for the top spot in the WTA rankings is far from over. Sabalenka, currently in the lead, must defend a comfortable advantage against Swiatek, but everything can still change, and the Polish player has what it takes to spring a surprise.
Indeed, the Belarusian has 11,225 points in the WTA rankings, which is 3,292 more than her direct competitor. However, she will need to defend 1,615 of those points (including her title in Wuhan) to keep her throne. The world number one will therefore have to maintain her consistency to avoid being caught.
On her side, the Polish player has 7,933 points in the rankings and will need to defend 400 of them by the end of the year. She will therefore need an early defeat for Sabalenka in the final WTA 1000 events (Beijing and Wuhan) as well as a potential participation in Seoul (WTA 500) to accumulate a few more points.
