WTA Seoul: Swiatek Stays Calm Despite Favorite Status
Before her first match in Seoul, Iga Swiatek refuses to be overconfident and admits to moving forward "step by step."
Two weeks after the US Open, top players in the women's circuit are returning to Seoul, a tournament belonging to the WTA 500 category.
This includes Swiatek, who exited in the quarterfinals in New York and is seeking points on the Asian continent after missing this part of the season last year (suspended due to contamination).
The world No. 2 spoke to the media on Sunday, being cautious about her favorite status in this event:
"It makes no sense to already think about the final. There are great players here, anyone can win this tournament. I will take things step by step and focus on my first match. We will see how I feel, how I play. There are many players who can make it to the final, so we will see.
I haven’t trained a lot (since the US Open) because I needed to recover and be ready to play matches again. Physically, I feel great. I think I need to train a bit more, but I don't feel any physical discomfort or pain, so everything is fine."
She will face Sorana Cirstea or Lin Zhu in her opening match.
