After a postponed match and tears shed, Raducanu makes a successful start in Seoul
Emma Raducanu, often overshadowed since her incredible triumph at the 2021 US Open, showed resilience in her debut at the WTA 500 in Seoul. The 22-year-old Briton dominated Jaqueline Cristian in two sets (6-3, 6-4) and secured a spot in the round of 16, where she now faces an even tougher test: Barbora Krejcikova.
Plagued by injuries, repeated coaching changes, and constant media pressure, the young player sometimes seemed lost in her own journey.
In Seoul, she appeared to be in great difficulty at times, even shedding tears in the first set before overcoming the world's 41st player. Unlike her opponent, she was notably efficient in crucial moments (6 out of 7 break points converted compared to 3 out of 15 for the Romanian).
It should be noted that the match was initially postponed due to weather conditions (rain).
The next obstacle will be much higher: Barbora Krejcikova, former French Open winner (2021) and currently in good form (quarterfinals at the US Open). An explosive showdown is expected.
