Cascales, Alcaraz's co-coach: "Ambition is the key word".

Cascales, Alcaraz's co-coach: Ambition is the key word.

Antonio Martinez Cascales is a well-known Spanish coach. Coach of Juan Carlos Ferrero and now co-coach of Carlos Alcaraz, the experienced coach was kind enough to answer a few questions from our Punto de Break colleagues.

Asked about his greatest fear of the current world number 3, he declared, full of wisdom: "Ambition is the key word. It's the main fear at the same time. That he still has the ambition to win more titles. If, at 25, he still has the same ambition, then he could end up with a large number of Grand Slam titles.

I remember an interview with Moya a few years ago, when he was asked what the biggest difference was between him and Rafa Nadal, and he replied that it was ambition. You can't be number one without ambition.

He said that Rafa had ten times more ambition than he did, and that ambition is what drives you to keep training and keep striving. The key is for him not to lose that ambition."
