Zverev dominates Alcaraz and almost eliminates him

Alexander Zverev continues to impress. Against a determined Carlos Alcaraz, Zverev showed impressive mastery to win in just two sets (7-6, 6-4). Solid in all areas of the game, Zverev smothered his opponent, who had no choice but to give up.

For his part, Carlos Alcaraz knew this before the start of the match. He had to succeed in upsetting the world number 2 if he was to have any real hope of qualifying for the semi-finals. Beaten, he now has to rely on a huge combination of circumstances.

All Casper Ruud needs to do tonight is win a single set against Andrey Rublev to confirm his place in the semi-finals.

So, although it's not yet official, it looks as though Alcaraz will be leaving Turin as early as the group stage.
