Casper Ruud Joins Djokovic: "I Played Too Many Tournaments, I Regret It"

On the sidelines of the ATP 250 in Stockholm, Casper Ruud spoke about the physical demands of his sport and the problems related to the schedule, echoing a certain Novak Djokovic. His comments were reported by Punto de Break.
"I've had three or four years without a break since I entered the top 10. I played too many tournaments, even exhibitions during the preseason. Looking back, I regret those choices."
The debate about the grueling men's tennis calendar is nothing new. But in Shanghai, Novak Djokovic made an unprecedented call for unity among players to rethink it. A call that Ruud straightforwardly supports:
"What Novak says makes a lot of sense. He has seen everything this sport demands. We need to listen to his experience. Now, there are bonuses if you play all the Masters 1000, and when you're in the top 15, with the expenses we have, it's hard to pass up."
But despite the relentless pace of the tour, Ruud wants to finish the season strong: "At this point, it's all or nothing. Whether I finish 11th or 15th doesn't matter. I want to finish strong."
