C'est une étoile montante," Herbert praises Fonseca before their Roland-Garros matchup

For the first time since 2020, Pierre-Hugues Herbert has won a match at Roland-Garros. To achieve this, the Alsatian had to overcome his compatriot Benjamin Bonzi in five sets.
In the second round, it will be a completely different match awaiting him, as he will play against one of the great hopes of tennis, namely Joao Fonseca. The Brazilian, at 18 years old, is competing in his first Roland-Garros and impressed in his debut by overwhelming Hubert Hurkacz (6-2, 6-4, 6-2).
Herbert commented on this matchup in a press conference: "I've been following him, especially because for the last 2-3 years I've been playing a lot in Challengers. He kind of went through that last year, so I've seen him, and I've also crossed paths with him in the Davis Cup, because we played Brazil in Orléans.
He's a young rising talent, he's a rising star. I've seen him win a lot at the start of this year, especially on the Australian tour where he played extremely well. He's on the trajectory of the very greats. He shows great maturity.
I find him very balanced, driven by a wonderful desire. He has an impressive game, with a forehand strike that we're not used to seeing. You can feel that he really wants it.
