Cirstea: "If I don't get back into the top 30, 2025 will probably be my last year".
Sorana Cirstea is close to retirement. The 34-year-old Romanian confided last December that 2025 could be the last season of her career, when she made her participation in the Cluj-Napoca tournament official.
This week, on home soil, Cirstea failed to progress beyond the first round, losing to Marina Stakusic (6-4, 1-6, 6-4). Currently ranked 64th in the world, she will drop out of the top 70 next week.
In an interview with Golazo, Sorana Cirstea set out her objectives for the months ahead: "It's been a week full of emotions.
I was overwhelmed by Simona's announcement. I could feel it coming, but when I heard her speak, I was in tears. This year will probably be my last season.
The results will decide. If I don't get back to where I want to be, which is in the top 30, 2025 will probably be my last year.
But at the same time, I feel young. I have this advantage over Simona: I'm in good health right now. And I love tennis.
I love being on the court and I hope to prolong my career as long as possible, but only if I get results," she confided.
