WTA 250 Cluj-Napoca tournament draw: Halep to face Bronzetti, Gracheva to face Stearns in first round

Many of the top 20 players have decided to take part in next week's WTA 500 tournament in Abu Dhabi.

Another WTA event next week is the Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

This 2025 edition is marked by the return to competition of Simona Halep, four months after her last match.

The former world number 1, now 33, has postponed her return to the courts, mainly due to knee pain.

The draw for the tournament has been made and the two-time Grand Slam winner has inherited Lucia Bronzetti for her opening match.

Should she succeed against the Italian, Halep would face the winner of the match between Peyton Stearns, seeded number 3, and Varvara Gracheva.

Gracheva is the only French player taking part in the tournament. Number 1 seed Anastasia Potapova will face Julia Grabher.

Eighth-place finalist at the Australian Open, Olga Danilovic, seeded number 2, will face Alycia Parks.

Several Romanian players also feature in the draw. Jaqueline Cristian and Sorana Cirstea will face players from the qualifying rounds.

Elena-Gabriela Ruse will take on Anhelina Kalinina, while last year's finalist Ana Bogdan will play Jodie Burrage. Finally, Irina-Camelia Begu will face Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
