Mental health has become an increasingly discussed topic, not only in society, but also in the world of sport, and more specifically, in tennis.
In an interview with Russian media outlet More, Anastasia Potapova, ranked 32nd in the world, answered a question about the fact that players on the WTA circuit are feeling increasingly dissatisfied with their sporting lives.
"I think some players have become too spoiled. There are things that make the circuit more difficult, but on the other hand...
I've also had moments when I wasn't happy in my life, when I felt I couldn't stay on the circuit.
But then you remember where you started from. And you say to yourself: 'My life is wonderful'. I think sometimes you forget where you come from.
We really do live in our own world, and sometimes that's difficult. But any professional sport is difficult. It demands a lot of work, a lot of sacrifice... There's a lot of pressure.
Both mentally and physically, it's complicated. But it's not the worst life you can have.
I think there comes a time when you have to stop, look around, remember how things used to be, see how they are now and how they might be in the future, and just thank fate for who you are," Potapova elaborated.
