Cirstea plans to retire: "2025 could be my last year on the circuit".

Cirstea plans to retire: 2025 could be my last year on the circuit.

Sorana Cirstea is getting closer to retirement. The 34-year-old Romanian hasn't played on the main circuit since her first-round loss to Sonay Kartal at Wimbledon.

After announcing a few weeks ago that Sven Groeneveld would be her coach in 2025, Cirstea confirmed her participation in early February at the WTA tournament in Cluj, where she will be on home soil.

In announcing the good news for all Romanian tennis fans, Cirstea also made a confession about the next stage of her career.

"The 2025 season could be my last on the WTA circuit. I say maybe because you can never be 100% sure of what the future holds.

That's why I really wanted to play one last tournament in Romania, and I'm delighted to be back on court at the Transylvanian Open in Cluj.

I hope to see many of you there", declared the world's 70th-ranked player on social networks.
