Coric Reflects on Challenger Tournaments: "Sometimes It’s Harder Because the Players Are Hungrier, They Need to Earn Money"

After a tough 2024 season (23 wins and 27 losses), Coric made the decision to drop down to the ATP Challenger circuit. With 16 consecutive wins and three recent titles (Lugano, Thionville, and Zadar), the 28-year-old has regained an excellent level of play.
In an interview conducted by Mischa Zverev and shared by Tennis.com, the Croatian player reflected on his choice. He particularly highlighted the challenges of the secondary circuits:
"I really think sometimes it’s harder to play Challengers than the ATP Tour because the guys are hungrier. Most of the players are much younger, and they’re really eager. They’ve never been part of the main tour, so they need to earn money.
It’s also a bit different on the circuit because, in most tournaments, you only get three practice balls for the entire day. It’s a real scramble.
It’s not easy, but honestly, I’m also enjoying my time. It’s taken me back to when I was 17 and playing these tournaments. It’s a kind of return to my roots.
I’m just focusing on playing a lot and winning matches. That’s what’s going to get me back in shape. That’s the goal."
