Cornet opens up: "I dreamt of Rafael Nadal all night long".
Alizé Cornet, 34, officially retired on Tuesday at Roland-Garros, where she played her final match on the clay of Court Philippe Chatrier. It's easy to imagine that it was this final act in her life as a professional tennis player that consumed her thoughts in the days and nights leading up to the event. But that wasn't quite the case in the end.
The Frenchwoman was present the day before (Monday) in the stands on Centre Court, to watch Rafael Nadal's potential final match at Roland-Garros. A moment so emotionally intense for Cornet that, instead of her own final match to come, it was the Spaniard who ended up occupying her dreams on Monday night.
This is what she confided, unfiltered and highly amused, in a press conference.
Alizé Cornet: "I slept pretty well in the end. I dreamt about Rafa all night, so that's it. I dreamt that he suggested we play a best-of-5 match in Strasbourg. Unlikely, yeah (huge laugh). Then I was with his family, celebrating... well, it was... I woke up and said to myself 'well, okay'. I'll tell you everything, I'll let go of anything that comes to me (laughs)."
