Nervous Garcia still not up to it at Roland Garros
Sad to say, but hardly a surprise. For the fourth year running, the French No.1 has stalled in the second round. Faced with a very aggressive Sofia Kenin, Garcia never really had a chance. Still paralyzed by the stakes, she gave away far too much (22 unforced errors, 4 double faults) to hope for victory. Beaten in two sets (6-3, 6-3 in 1h25), she's already on her way out.
On a relatively sparsely-packed but still noisy Chatrier, the Frenchwoman tried her hardest, but she was far too caught up in the event, and in the American's early shots, to get through.
On the other side of the net, Kenin seemed to regain her superb form (26 winners, 14 unforced errors). Showing great aggression, particularly on the return, she completely dominated the proceedings and reached the third round with authority.
For a place in the last 16, the 2020 Australian Open winner will probably face Jelena Ostapenko (ranked 11th), unless the Latvian is upset by Clara Tauson (ranked 72nd).
