Tsitsipas reaches the third round at Roland-Garros in two steps
Stefanos Tsitsipas gave himself a scare, but secured the essential: a solid qualification for the next round.
Faced with a Daniel Altmaier (83rd) who is always very dangerous, as he was last year when he upset Jannik Sinner, the Greek remained vigilant right to the end to win (6-3, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 in 2h44).
After a thunderous start to the match in which he clearly dominated proceedings, quickly leading two sets to nil, the winner of the last Monte-Carlo tournament had to endure the comeback of an unleashed German. With a crazy tiebreak, Altmaier began to play his best tennis. Breaking the first set in the fourth, he almost pushed Tsitsipas into the fifth.
Despite this, the Greek showed all his serenity to regain control of the match and finish in four sets (winning the last three games of the match). Satisfied with his fine performance (54 winners, 27 unforced errors), 'Stef' now moves on to the third round with authority, where he could meet a certain Lorenzo Sonego (who faced Zhang in the second round on Wednesday).
