Courier doesn't really support Fritz: "He's been completely lost".
On his baseline, when he's firmly rooted to the ground, Fritz is one of the best. His forehand and backhand strokes are unbelievable, especially if you give him pace and the game stops there. But against Musetti, who offered him a number of variations, including the use of slice and drop shots, he was completely lost and powerless.
Taylor Fritz is beginning to be relatively cursed in Grand Slam quarter-finals. In 4 quarters played, he hasn't won a single one.
Yet this Wimbledon tournament seemed like the perfect opportunity. After brilliantly defeating a visibly diminished Zverev in the Round of 16 (4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3), he was heavily favored in his quarter-final match against Lorenzo Musetti. Unfortunately for him, he fell into the trap set by an excellent Italian and finally walked out (3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1).
Interviewed on the Tennis Channel, Jim Courier, four-time Grand Slam champion between 1991 and 1993, commented on his compatriot's performance: "On his baseline, when he's firmly rooted to the ground, Fritz is one of the best. His forehand and backhand strokes are incredible, especially if you give him pace and the game stops there.
But against Musetti, who came up with a number of variations, including the use of slice and quality drop shots, he was completely lost and powerless."
