Davis Cup: Italy on the verge of an unprecedented feat for over 50 years
Defending champion, Italy aims for a third consecutive Davis Cup title.
Since 2023, the Squadra Azzurra has reigned supreme in the competition: a first final won against Australia, followed by a victory against the Netherlands last year.
With this new qualification, Italy becomes the first nation to play three consecutive Davis Cup finals since Australia between 1999 and 2001.
At the time, the Australians triumphed in 1999 in Nice against France, before losing in the following two years, first in Barcelona against Spain, then at home, in Melbourne, against the French.
If they triumph on Sunday, Italy would achieve a feat unseen for over half a century: a Davis Cup triple, a first since the United States' five consecutive titles between 1968 and 1972.
