'He'll Cause Havoc': De Minaur Hails Hurkacz's Return After United Cup Thriller
Alex de Minaur put Australia back on track at the United Cup. Despite the host nation's quarterfinal elimination against Poland, the world No. 6 claimed his singles match against the returning Hubert Hurkacz (6-4, 4-6, 6-4), securing his third win in four career meetings against the Pole.
Long sidelined by injury last season, Hurkacz—now down to No. 83 in the rankings—is playing his first tournament since June 2025. After defeating Hurkacz, de Minaur praised his opponent's return to competition.
“Thrilled to See Him Healthy”
“Hubi (Hurkacz) is an incredible talent. I'm so happy to see him back on tour. I'm not thrilled to face him, but I'm glad he's back. I'm sure he'll cause plenty of damage.
I'm just thrilled to see him healthy. I had to battle him from the first to the last point. It was a huge mental effort for me,” de Minaur told The Tennis Letter.
