De Minaur Speaks Out Against Extended Masters 1000: "Rest Between Matches Isn’t Necessary"
Alex De Minaur secured his spot in the Madrid Masters 1000 round of 16 this Saturday by defeating Lorenzo Sonego 6-2, 6-3.
The Australian took time during his press conference to address several hot topics, including the 12-day Masters 1000 format:
"Even if we’re not playing every day, this version of the Masters 1000 forces us to stay in competition mode for a long period.
We have to stick to our routines, stay focused on our tennis, and constantly think about what we need to do to perform at our best.
Back-to-back Masters 1000 events in this format keep you in that state for a month. That’s why, for example, I prefer the Monte-Carlo format (one week). Rest between matches isn’t necessary. And you know the tournament will be over in a week."
