Defeated with Herbert in Doubles, Mahut Bids Farewell to Roland-Garros

At 43, Nicolas Mahut will retire at the end of the year.
The native of Angers played the final match of his career at Roland-Garros on Thursday, losing in the doubles tournament alongside his partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert to the Italian pair Bolelli/Vavassori (7-6, 6-2).
A tribute ceremony was then held to honor Mahut for his outstanding career on the professional tour.
He won four singles titles (s-Hertogenbosch in 2013, 2015, and 2016, and Newport in 2013), as well as 37 doubles titles, including five Grand Slams (Roland-Garros 2018 and 2021, Australian Open 2019, Wimbledon 2016, and US Open 2015), seven Masters 1000 titles, two ATP Finals, and a Davis Cup. Mahut also reached the world No. 1 ranking in doubles.
He received a trophy from Gilles Moretton and Amélie Mauresmo to commemorate his achievements. A special video was also made for the occasion (see video below).
In his speech, Mahut made sure to thank Herbert, with whom he won every Grand Slam tournament:
"I couldn’t have dreamed of anything better. I never imagined such an honor. Over 25 years of career, living and breathing tennis. Even if this wasn’t my last match, it was my last Roland-Garros. We all know what this tournament means to a French player. [...]
I never thought that phone call in 2014 (with Herbert) would change my career and my life so much. Thanks to you, I achieved all my dreams. We’ve had ups and downs, but what remains are the moments we shared. Thank you for all the emotions. I’ll never be too far from you."
