Denmark topple Serbia in Davis Cup

The first round of the Davis Cup play-offs was full of twists and turns in Copenhagen.

Without the injured Novak Djokovic, Serbia were determined to secure their place in the next round against Denmark.

By the end of the first day, it was Serbia who had taken a major step towards victory.

Even without their greatest legend, the visitors played without pressure, and Miomir Kecmanovic dominated Elmer Moller (3-6, 6-2, 6-1), before Hamad Medjedovic surprised Holger Rune (2-6, 6-3, 6-1).

But on the second day, the tables were turned. Spurred on by their fans, the Danes responded in fine style. Johannes Ingildsen and Holger Rune won the doubles against Kecmanovic and Medjedovic (6-4, 6-4).

The same Rune, ranked 12th on the ATP rankings, then overcame Kecmanovic (6-2, 6-4) to clinch a decisive fifth match.

In the end, it was Moller who got the better of Medjedovic (1-6, 6-4, 6-3). In a great atmosphere, Denmark turned the tables and confirmed that they are Serbia's bête noire in the Davis Cup.

The Scandinavian nation has now won four of its five meetings with its opponent in the history of the competition. A second play-off against Spain and Switzerland awaits in the next round.
