Diallo recounts his victory against Dimitrov: "I've never served like that in my life"
Gabriel Diallo continues to impress at the Madrid Masters 1000. After losing in the final round of qualifying, he was reprieved as a lucky loser and has since been on a winning streak.
His latest victory came against Dimitrov on Wednesday, securing his place in the quarterfinals. He said: "I’ve never served like that in my life. He played incredibly, closing the space, hitting shots that worked perfectly.
He tried to mix things up, to respond with more power. I’m very happy with my game, and I never stopped believing in myself. In the third set, I broke immediately and held on until the end.
But again, the serve was flawless. This is definitely the best win of my career, maybe even ranking-wise. I played at the highest level of my career.
Now the focus is on how to maintain this level and what can be improved in the future. Grigor is one of the best. I grew up watching him, seeing him beat Novak here.
I was a kid dreaming of one day playing on these courts. Today, I played in front of an incredible crowd against one of the players I used to watch as a child."
