Did Djokovic Play His Last Roland-Garros?
Eliminated just before the final of Roland-Garros by Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic may have played for the last time on the Philippe-Chatrier court, though we do not know it for sure at the moment.
The man with 24 Grand Slam titles first surprised with his attitude upon leaving the court, taking a moment to salute the cheering crowd before kissing the clay.
A farewell gesture? It’s uncertain, but despite a valiant performance against the current world No. 1, the Serb knows it will become increasingly difficult to win a Grand Slam, especially on clay.
Would Djokovic then have given up on competing in Roland-Garros in 2026? In a press conference, he spoke on the matter: “It might have been my last match on this court. That’s why there were emotions. At this stage of my career, it’s tough to say if I will be able to return to Roland-Garros in twelve months.”
If he does not reach the symbolic mark of 25 Grand Slam titles this year, Wimbledon would remain his priority for the following season. Djokovic, who has reached the final in the last two editions, knows his best chance to capture one last major tournament is on grass, with also the goal of equaling Roger Federer’s record of titles (8).
Skipping Roland-Garros when he will turn 39 next year seems like an option Djokovic is considering. But everything will depend, of course, on his second half of the 2025 season and his level of motivation, which has waned since his gold medal at the Paris Olympics and the retirement of his former rivals Federer, Nadal, and Murray.
