It was truly a special moment to play against Novak," Sinner said after his victory over Djokovic at Roland Garros
Jannik Sinner reached his first career final at Roland Garros by defeating Novak Djokovic in three sets.
During his on-court post-match interview, the world No. 1 took a moment to pay tribute to his opponent, whom he had long admired:
"Thank you all for your support. It was truly a special moment for me to play against Novak here in the semifinals of a Grand Slam. I tried to play my best tennis, and I needed to in order to win.
I’m thrilled about the final ahead. But for us as young players, it’s really a privilege to face Novak. I can only wish him the best for the rest of the season.
He has achieved so much—he’s one of the greatest players in the history of our sport. When I’m on the court, I try not to think too much about that, about his status. I just focus on preparing as well as I can because you can feel the tension. I hope to face him again. I’m very happy to be in the final, even though my record against Carlos isn’t the best.
