Djokovic on Sinner: "I'm not surprised he's playing at this level".
After a tricky year that saw him finish 2024 without winning a single Grand Slam and Masters 1000 for the first time since 2017, Novak Djokovic is preparing his return to the tour.
The Serb has just appointed Andy Murray as his new coach, and the Scot will accompany the former world number 1 at least until the Australian Open.
As Djokovic himself has said, his main objective is to return to the joys of a Major title.
In particular, he will be competing against Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who has enjoyed a superb year to establish himself as the tour's leading player.
Speaking to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the ten-time Melbourne winner reflected on the Italian's progress: "I remember Sinner when he was 14 or 15.
Even then, we spoke very highly of him. It was clear that he would have a great career, because he already had the right mentality and the necessary concentration.
I've followed him closely over the years, I've seen him play and structure himself, so I'm not surprised he's playing at this level," he analyzes.
"The fact that he works with Darren Cahill, a man who has worked with some of the best players in the world, can only help him. What's more, I like Jannik because he always wants to improve," concludes Djokovic.
