Djokovic reflects on his Olympic gold medal: "The best moment of my career".
Novak Djokovic's main achievement this year was winning gold at the Paris Olympic Games.
After a faultless run that saw him eliminate arch-rival Rafael Nadal and then beat Carlos Alcaraz in the final, the Serb finally realized his dream.
In doing so, he wrote a new page in the history of tennis, winning every major singles title possible.
In an interview with La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the former world number 1 reflects on one of the finest performances of his career.
"Olympic gold is an important achievement because it's the only title I've won this year. But it was also what I had set as my absolute goal at the start of the season," Djokovic begins.
"Winning the gold medal was a dream, but also a priority. It was my great ambition for many years.
Despite my failures and three semi-final losses, I won bronze in my first appearance in 2008. I told myself that, at 37, this might be my last chance to wear that medal around my neck," he concedes.
"After the knee operation and the Wimbledon final, I felt ready, and I think I showed that during the tournament.
In the end, my dream became a reality and this remains without doubt one of the best moments, if not the best, of my career," concludes Novak Djokovic.
