Djokovic: "Probably the greatest sporting success I've had in my career".
Novak Djokovic is still savoring the moment.
After winning just about everything, he finally got the last great achievement he still lacked: Olympic gold.
After a prodigious final in which he got the better of Alcaraz, who had been unstoppable since the French Open (7-6, 7-6), this title is truly worth its weight in gold.
When asked about it, Djokovic didn't hesitate to put this victory very high up in his personal history: "It surpasses everything I had imagined and hoped to experience and feel.
The fact that I won bronze at my first Olympic Games and haven't won a medal since, despite three semi-finals (2008, 2012, 2021)... I couldn't overcome that obstacle.
And now, at 37, I've beaten a 21-year-old who is the best player in the world today.
If I take everything into consideration, this is probably the greatest sporting success I've had in my career."
