Djokovic raises his game and reaches the third round at Roland Garros
This was exactly the kind of match Novak Djokovic needed to get up to speed on clay. Opposed to an opponent who had the stamina to hit heavy shots, but was clearly lacking in power and wasn't a very good server, 'Nole' was able to calmly settle his shots.
Faced with Roberto Carballes Baena, the world No. 1 was able to repeat his routines, raising his game throughout the match and winning in just over two hours (6-4, 6-2, 6-2). Very much at ease, Djokovic distributed the play on both sides (43 winners, 24 unforced errors), even attempting a few variation shots. Taking advantage of his opponent's relatively weak serve, he was able to regulate his return game (7 successful breaks), showing himself to be much more effective in this area than in the first round.
At the end of a successful match in which he was able to work on his game, the 'Djoker' advances to the third round, where he will face the winner of the popcorn match between Monfils and Musetti (scheduled for the night session on Thursday).
