Do I Have a Mental Edge Over Sinner Now?" Alcaraz Reflects on Roland-Garros Final
During the media day in London, Alcaraz was asked about his rival Sinner and the difficulty of losing such a long final:
"I haven’t spoken to Jannik after that incredible match. We’re friends, but not close. Still, I can imagine what he must have gone through and how much that final in Paris hurt him. The good thing about tennis is that you never stop. You don’t have much time to disconnect and reflect because there’s always another big match coming up.
I’m sure Jannik will come back with strength and motivation like never before. Also because I know Wimbledon is a tournament that excites him. He plays very well on grass and is obviously a contender to reach the final and win it."
Having won their last five encounters, the Spaniard also addressed the psychological aspect of their rivalry:
"Do I have a mental edge over Sinner now? I don’t know. For Jannik, it was a tough loss, just like it has been for me before. But honestly, I think he’ll learn from what happened in Paris and come back even stronger. So I don’t believe I’m in a higher mental state than him. There are many players who can compete with us. Tournaments are very open now—there are plenty of players capable of winning and achieving great things.
