Having secured his spot in the semifinals of the Madrid tournament by defeating Arnaldi (6-0, 6-4), Draper has guaranteed his entry into the top 5. He becomes the second left-handed player after Nadal to reach this ranking since 2000.
Inspired by the Spanish legend, the Brit reflected on Nadal's impact. He shared his thoughts in an interview reported by Tennis World Italia:
"I grew up watching Rafael Nadal—he’s also left-handed—and I never thought I’d be like him on clay. There are definitely things I can learn from the way he worked on his forehand. Drawing inspiration from how he dominated and intimidated his opponents on this surface."
To secure his first final in Madrid, he will need to defeat Italian Musetti in the semifinals.
