Draper Ready to Take on the Clay Challenge: "It’s Not the Most Natural Surface for Someone from the UK"
Ranked No. 6 in the ATP rankings this week, Jack Draper took some time to rest after his triumph in Indian Wells and a second-round exit in Miami.
In Monte-Carlo, the Brit isn’t positioning himself as one of the favorites, still needing to adapt to the clay:
*"I think I have something to prove to myself. I haven’t had any big results on clay yet. Last year, I struggled to get going.
I lost a few matches in the third set against good opponents. We’ll see over time if I can do better. [...]
It’s not the most natural surface for someone from the UK. But I think I can be effective on it. You have to work a bit harder to win points, the game is a bit more physical.
But those aspects of my game are improving, at least I hope so. I’m excited to see how I perform on these courts."*
