Draw for the ATP 500 in Hamburg: Zverev with Auger-Aliassime, a Monfils - Davidovich Fokina showdown in the first round

After being held for years in July, shortly after Wimbledon, the ATP 500 in Hamburg sees a change in its position on the calendar this year, as it now serves as the final preparation tournament before Roland Garros.

A drastic change initially allowed it to attract big names (Sinner, Rune, Paul, Musetti, Tsitsipas among others). However, one week before the second Grand Slam of the season, the organizers unsurprisingly had to deal with numerous withdrawals.

Thus, Alexander Zverev, a quarter-finalist in Rome and a last-minute wild card recipient, will be the headliner of the tournament. He will face either a qualifier or a lucky loser in the second round.

He finds himself in the same section of the draw as Félix Auger-Aliassime, who will start against Daniel Altmaier aiming to secure his first clay-court win of the year.

At the bottom of the draw, Frances Tiafoe is seeded No. 2. The American, ranked 16th in the world, will begin against Yunchaokete Bu. Also notable is the presence of Andrey Rublev, seeded No. 3, who will face Damir Dzumhur. Runner-up in 2019 and champion in 2020, the Russian will be looking to regain his best form at a venue he enjoys.

On the French side, Gaël Monfils will make his return to competition after withdrawals in Munich, Madrid, and Rome. He has not been given an easy draw, playing his first round against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, still in the running at the Bordeaux Challenger, will play against Alexander Bublik. Finally, Alexandre Müller will face a qualifier or a lucky loser.
