Eala is ready for what comes next: "The real work starts now"
The true revelation of this WTA 1000 in Miami is Alexandra Eala. The 19-year-old Filipino player, invited by the organizers, made the most of her wild card with prestigious victories against three former Grand Slam champions—Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys, and Iga Swiatek.
Her run eventually ended in the semifinals, where she fell in three sets to Jessica Pegula after a hard-fought battle on Miami’s center court.
On her Instagram account, Eala shared a message following her outstanding tournament performance, which will see her break into the WTA top 100 for the first time in her young career this Monday—a major milestone in her progress.
"This year’s Miami tournament left me speechless and filled with emotions, especially pride and gratitude. I’m proud to have pushed through tough moments and to have represented the Philippines on one of the biggest stages in professional tennis.
Moreover, I’m grateful for all the positive energy I felt throughout the tournament, and I pray that you all continue to support me through the highs and lows.
I recognize that these two weeks have opened the door to many opportunities, but with them comes a whole new set of challenges I’ll have to overcome. The real work starts now," she wrote on social media recently.
