Eala, World No. 140, Creates the Day's Surprise Against Keys in Miami

The Miami tournament continues to deliver surprises.
Alexandra Eala, ranked 140th in the world, had already impressed in her previous round against Jelena Ostapenko (7-6, 7-5). Facing Madison Keys this Sunday, the young player from the Philippines played boldly to secure a 6-4, 6-2 victory in 1 hour and 26 minutes.
At 19 years old, she achieves the biggest win of her career and also becomes the first player from her country to reach the round of 16 in a WTA 1000 event.
She will rise to at least 117th in the world after the tournament and will face Paula Badosa tomorrow.
Deeply moved, she shared this in her post-match interview:
"First, I think of my parents. I can't call them right now because I'm doing this interview, but I will right after. (smile) […]
Growing up in the Philippines wasn't easy. No one from where I come from could guide us. I hope this will help Philippine tennis take a new step forward."
