Emma Raducanu Withdraws in Wuhan
Emma Raducanu was undoubtedly hoping for a different outcome at the Wuhan WTA 1000. But the 22-year-old British player experienced a nightmare on the court.
Facing American Ann Li for the second time this season, Raducanu retired mid-way through the second set, while trailing 6-1, 4-1. From the first few games, something seemed off. Less sharp than usual, the 2021 US Open champion was in serious trouble.
At 1-4 in the second set, she called for the medical staff, who promptly checked her blood pressure. A few minutes later, she decided to withdraw.
On the other hand, Li has seen a nice rise in the rankings this year (46th). With this qualification for the second round, she will once again have a tough challenge against the world number 11: Russian player Ekaterina Alexandrova.
