Swiatek Crushes Bouzkova in Her Wuhan Debut
Iga Swiatek made her debut in Wuhan against Marie Bouzkova. The Polish player was coming off a disappointing round of 16 in Beijing, concluded by a crushing 6-0 defeat inflicted by Emma Navarro.
Swiatek showed no doubt against the Czech player, winning 6-1, 6-1 in 1 hour and 19 minutes of play. She records her 60th victory of the season and becomes the first player to win so many matches in 4 consecutive seasons since Martina Hingis and Lindsay Davenport in 2001.
Another statistic that demonstrates her strength in the early rounds: she has secured her 68th consecutive victory in opening matches on the WTA tour, the highest number for a WTA player.
Swiatek will face Belinda Bencic or Elise Mertens in the next round.
